The Journal of Musculoskeletal Science and Technology is the official publication of the KEMA (kinetic ergocise based on movement analysis) academy. The editor of Journal of Musculoskeletal Science and Technology, Oh-yun Kwon, can be contacted via email at kwonoy@yonsei.ac.kr. Manuscripts must not be under simultaneous consideration by any other publication, before or during the peer-review process. Authors are responsible for submitting papers of presentations directly to the Journal.

SUBMISSIONS

Manuscripts are to be submitted by internet submission system (http://submission.jkema.org). Manuscripts that do not comply with the following requirements and directives for process, style, and format will not enter the peer-review process.

INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

Research and review articles, case and brief reports, letter to editors should be submitted to Journal of Musculoskeletal Science and Technology in the field of clinical assessment, intervention, disease and exercise, biomechanics and kinesiology, education, rehabilitation et al. All files related to manuscripts should be submitted electronically to Editorial Manager. Editors may make necessary changes to articles in accordance with "Instructions to Authors". Text files should be in Microsoft Word.

MANUSCRIPT FORMATS

The manuscripts should be submitted in Times New Roman font, 11-point type. Manuscript pages should be double-spaced with consecutive page numbers and continuous line numbers. Manuscripts should be 6000 words or fewer (including abstract and references). There are also limitations on figures, tables, and references; see guidelines below.

MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION

Abstract

Abstracts should summarize the contents of the article in 350 words or less. The abstract should be structured in the following format:

• Title: State the title of manuscript. Do not use abbreviations in the title.
• Background: In one or two sentences, summarize the scientific body of knowledge surrounding your study and how this led to your investigation.
• Purpose: State the theory that you are attempting to prove or disprove by your study or the purpose if no hypothesis exists.
• Study Design: Identify the overall design of your study. See list below.
• Methods: Summarize the overall methods you used in your investigation. Include the study population, type of intervention, method of data collection, and length of the study.
• Results: Report the most important results of your study. Only include positive results that are statistically significant, or important negative results that are supported by adequate power.
• Conclusions: State the answer to your original question or hypothesis. Summarize the most important conclusions that can be directly drawn from your study.
• Key words: Include at least 5 key terms for indexing. The key words should appear following the abstract, in alphabetical order, each separated by “,”. If possible, use terms from the Index Medicus medical subjects headings (MeSH) (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/mesh).

Key points

• Question: Focused question based on the study hypothesis or goal/purpose. Limit to 1 sentence.
• Findings: Results of the study. Include the design (eg, clinical trial, cohort study, case-control study, meta-analysis, systematic review). Focus on primary outcome(s) and finding(s). Do not emphasize secondary outcomes. Report basic numbers only but state if results are statistically significant or not significant. Can include 1 to 2 sentences.
• Meaning: Key conclusion and implication based on the primary finding. Limit to 1 sentence.

Study Designs

• Meta-analysis: A systematic overview of studies that pools results of two or more studies to obtain an overall answer to a question or interest. Summarizes quantitatively the evidence regarding a treatment, procedure, or association.
• Systematic Review: An article that examines published material on a clearly described subject in a systematic way. There must be a description of how the evidence on this topic was tracked down, from what sources and with what inclusion and exclusion criteria.
• Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial: A group of patients is randomized into an experimental group and a control group. These groups are followed up for the variables / outcomes of interest.
• Cross-Sectional Study: The observation of a defined population at a single point in time or time interval. Exposure and outcome are determined simultaneously.
• Case Series: Describes characteristics of a group of patients with a particular disease or who have undergone a particular procedure. Design may be prospective or retrospective. No control group is used in the study, although the discussion may compare the results to other published outcomes.
• Case Report: Similar to the case series, except that only one or a small group of cases is reported.

Reporting Guidelines

Authors are encouraged to follow internationally recognized reporting guidelines depending on study design:

• CONSORT (randomized controlled trials)
• PRISMA (systematic reviews and meta-analyses)
• STROBE (observational studies)
• CARE (case reports)

Adherence to these guidelines enhances transparency and reproducibility.

Text

In general, follow the standard format (Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions) for writing scientific articles. Authors with limited fluency in English should have the paper reviewed or edited by a native English speaker to ensure clear presentation of the work.

Use metric units in measurements (centimeter vs inch, kilogram vs pound).

Expand all abbreviations at first mention in the text.

Use of a CONSORT flow diagram is required to illustrate the grouping and flow of patients in all randomized controlled trials and is recommended for all other types of clinical studies.

Statistical methods should be described in detail. Actual P values should be used unless less than .001. Reporting of 95% confidence intervals is encouraged.

Acknowledgment

Do not include acknowledgment in the manuscript. This information will be added to the accepted manuscript at the time of publication. Please briefly describe the contributions made by persons being acknowledged.

Note: anyone who has contributed to the preparation of the submitted text must be included on the author disclosure form and his or her disclosures included there.

References

Number references in the order they appear in the text; do not alphabetize. When listing references, abbreviate names of journals according to the journals list in PubMed. List all authors and/or editors up to 6; if more than 6, list the first 3 followed by "et al."

Note: Journal references should include the issue number after the volume number.

Examples of reference style:

Author can use Endnote Journal of Musculoskeletal Science and Technology’s style.

TABLES, FIGURES, VIDEO, ANIMATION ETC

All tables and figures should include at the end of the manuscript file. Each item should be produced in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, or PowerPoint), GIF or TIFF format. Limit still art files to 700 kilobytes of memory and use 96 dpi resolution or consult with the editor-in-chief. Please have original photos or negatives available to submit on request of the editor-in-chief. The author is responsible for ensuring that persons pictured in photographs have provided informed consent for the use of their picture. Please include the photographer's name with each photograph so that he or she can be properly acknowledged. Video clips should be less than 8 seconds in length; segments of greater length should be broken into a series of shorter clips. Make sure that each video clip is referred to within the body of the manuscript, together with an appropriate description of it.

Tables

Including data in tables rather than text frequently makes it possible to reduce the length of the text. Type each table with double spacing on a separate sheet of paper. Number tables consecutively in the order of their first citation in the text and supply a brief title for each. Do not use internal vertical lines. Give each column a short or abbreviated heading. Authors should place explanatory matter in footnotes, not in the heading. Explain in footnotes all nonstandard abbreviations. For footnotes use the following symbols, in sequence:

Identify statistical measures of variations, such as standard deviation and standard error of the mean and give the variations in parentheses.

Be sure that each table is cited in the text.

If you use data from another published or unpublished source, obtain permission and acknowledge them fully.

ETHICAL / LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS

Manuscripts are considered if they are submitted only to Journal of Musculoskeletal Science and Technology and therefore should not be under consideration for publication elsewhere, either in part or in whole, in any language, without the consent of Journal of Musculoskeletal Science and Technology. Authors are responsible for the scientific context and legal aspects of the articles. Each author also accepts that the Journal of Musculoskeletal Science and Technology will not be held legally responsible for any claims of compensation.

Authors wishing to include figures or text passages that have already been published elsewhere are required to obtain permission from the copyright holder(s) and to include evidence that such permission has been granted when submitting their papers. Any material received without such evidence will be assumed to originate from the authors.

Please include at the end of the acknowledgements a declaration that the experiments comply with the current laws of the country in which they were performed. The editors reserve the right to reject manuscripts that do not comply with the abovementioned requirements. The author(s) will be held responsible for false statements or failure to fulfill the above-mentioned requirements.

Research articles and case studies involving human and animal subjects must conform to the policy statement with respect to the Declaration of Helsinki. It is the author's responsibility to ensure that a patient's anonymity be carefully protected and to verify that any experimental investigation with human subjects reported in the manuscript was performed with informed consent and following all the guidelines for experimental investigation with human subjects required by the institution(s) with which all the authors are affiliated. Authors should mask patients' eyes and remove patients' names from figures unless they obtain written consent from the patients and submit written consent with the manuscript.

Ethical Requirements

All studies involving human participants must include:

• Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval
• Informed consent statement

Authors must comply with ethical standards outlined by COPE and ICMJE.

CONFLICTS OF INTEREST

Authors must state all possible conflicts of interest, including financial, consultant, institutional and other relationships that might lead to bias or a conflict of interest. If there is no conflict of interest, this should also be explicitly stated as none declared. All sources of funding should be acknowledged in the Acknowledgment section.

COPYRIGHT TRANSFER AND DUAL SUBMISSIONS

The Journal of Musculoskeletal Science and Technology must receive in writing the exclusive assignment of Copyright Transfer Statement from all authors at the time of manuscript submission. Manuscripts will not enter the peer-review process until the Copyright Transfer Statement assignment form is completed and sent to the Editorial Office. Manuscripts are considered for publication on the condition that they are contributed solely to this Journal and, therefore, have not been and will not be published elsewhere, in part or in whole.

PUBLISHING MODEL AND AUTHORS FEES

Journal of Musculoskeletal Science and Technology is published using the open access model. All content are available free of charge without restrictions from the journal's Website at: http://www.jkema.org. The submission and peer-review of manuscripts are free of charge.

Artificial Intelligence (AI)-assisted Technologies

JMST permits the use of AI-assisted technologies for language editing and readability improvement. However, AI tools cannot be listed as authors.

Authors must disclose the use of AI-assisted technologies in the manuscript, including the tool name, version, and purpose of use. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of the content.

The use of AI for generating or altering scientific images is not permitted unless it is an essential part of the research methodology and is fully described.

Funding Statement

All sources of funding must be clearly stated in the manuscript.

If no funding was received, authors should explicitly state: "This research received no external funding."

Data Availability

Authors are required to include a data availability statement.

Data sharing is encouraged to promote transparency and reproducibility.

Plagiarism and Similarity Check

All manuscripts are screened using similarity detection software.

Manuscripts with excessive similarity or evidence of plagiarism will be rejected.

Copyright and Open Access

Authors retain copyright of their work.

Articles are published under an open access license allowing non-commercial use with proper attribution.
